Lilly Pulitzer x Target

I'm not normally one to get so excited for Target collaborations, but the Lilly Pulitzer x Target collab is SPOT ON for everything I want to wear to the beach this summer. Lilly is one of those designers that the collegiate-southern-belle in me loves, but cannot usually justify buying because her collections are mainly filled with things I would only wear when vacationing somewhere tropical or tailgating my alma matter's football game
(Read as: not very often. Or certainly not often enough to spend $150 on a pair of shorts).

The Lilly x Target collection officially launches on April 19th, but you can still check out the lookbook online HERE, or browse all the things I'm going to buy for (fingers crossed) the 25th birthday trip I'm hoping to take...

Summer Wedding

I recently attended my cousin's beautiful outdoor wedding on a farm in western Maryland. Summer weddings are so lovely, and such a wonderful chance to celebrate with friends and family you haven't seen in a while. I always follow a few key tips when dressing for a wedding, and I am excited to share them with you here!

DRESS: ARITZIA + HEELS: C WONDER (SIMILAR) + PURSE: VINTAGE THRIFT (SIMILAR) +
RING & BRACELET: C WONDER + EARRINGS: NORDSTROM (SIMILAR) + NAIL POLISH: ESSIE 'GO GINZA'

How to mix conservative with playful:
For me, this is the key for summer weddings. As it is a formal, and often religious affair, a cap or short-sleeved dress that touches just above your knees is ideal. It sounds a bit old fashioned, but it's respectful to have your shoulders covered during the ceremony and this is the perfect way to do that without having to add on a frumpy cardigan or wrap to your outfit (which would probably have you baking in the sun as well).

I often describe my style as classic with a twist, so to offset the more conservative structure of my dress, I looked for one with interesting details and embellishments, like lace, an exposed zipper, and a bright bold color. This dress also ups the edge-factor a bit with a low v neckline and a see-through lace back, but I felt like I could get away with it because it adhered to my shoulder and knee-length guidelines.

Another way I love to jazz up a wedding outfit is a statement heel. Nude heels are great, and should be a staple in any girls' closet, but I don't shy away from having a few shoes in bold prints and colors, not only does it complete your ensemble when paired with a dress in the same color scheme, but you can get use out of them as well by pairing them with a neutral outfit (think all white, jeans and a tshirt, or black and white ensembles) the same way you would pair nude heels with a crazy dress. I got so many compliments on these heels at the wedding, but notice that they are not that high. I stayed with a 3" heel, and with the gravel and grass at the ceremony, not to mention the dance floor later, my feet were thanking me.

And now, a small peek into the very attractive people in my life:

My wonderful family

 My handsome boo

My cousin Emily, a beautiful bridesmaid and very soon a bride herself!

South In The City

Yes, I live in New York. And yes, I love high fashion in the city. But some days it's so darn lovely out that I HAVE to put on one of my favorite down-home sundresses and my cowboy boots. I just have to. This dress was one of those great finds (one stumbles upon every so often) when Francesca's Collections was just opening up in North Carolina. I can't find it anywhere online anymore, so if you see one like it, buy it.
And tell me where you found it.

DRESS: FRANCESCA'S (OLD- LOVE THIS TOO) + BELT: SIMILAR & SIMILAR +
BOOTS: STEVE MADDEN (OLD- SIMILAR) + BAG: MICHAEL KORS HAMILTON TOTE + WATCH: BELK +
EARRINGS: RALPH LAUREN + SUNGLASSES: MICHAEL KORS + BANGLES: ALEX AND ANI

I love this watch. I got it at Belk when I was down south recently on major sale. Department stores like Belk and Macy's always have great storewide or jewelry-section-wide sales. It probably cost me between $30 and $40 when all was said and done and it looks almost EXACTLY like a Michael Kors version that costs over $200! Oh and check out this wide woven stretch belt. If you don't own one, well, you should. This picture is prime advertising for how any sundress + a wide elastic belt = instant hourglass shapeage.

In clothing fashion floral j crew jewelry nail polish nails NYC style blog weekday wishlist

Weekday Wishlist: Spring is Sprung

1. Tory Burch 'Kaley' Dress // I have been in LOVE with this dress since I saw it on Pink Peonies blog the other day. Normally I wouldn't spend so much money on a seasonal dress, but it's just been marked down from $400 to $237.... stay strong, Ashley, stay strong!

2. J. Crew Camden Jeweled Sandals // These sandals are popping up on fashion blogs all over the place. They're perfect to pair with a cute sundress or to add a bit of sparkle to boyfriend jeans and a tee. And J. Crew has been having a surprising number of sales this season... right now spring styles are 30% off on their website.

3. Topshop Red Basic Longline Bikini // I'M SO EXCITED FOR VINTAGE-STYLE BIKINIS. I love a good vintage throw back, and Topshop has a whole line of these babies in cute floral/fruity prints and basic solids, and $50 total for a swimsuit is dirt cheap these days. I'm definitely buying this red one for my Fourth of July lake trip this summer!

4. Essie Nail Polish in 'Go Ginza' // My friend Caitlin over at Southern Curls and Pearls (hands-down my favorite fashion blog that I follow btw...) has been wearing this nail polish for a few weeks and has been getting SO many compliments and desperate comments asking what the color is (I might be included in this desperate comment mayhem...). It's a beautiful pale pinky-purple and is my new favorite pastel nail for spring. Buying it immediately. You should too, I swear it's worth it.

5. Freebird Rolling Buckle Boot // The best versatile spring bootie I've seen in a while. A rich tan distressed leather with a stacked heel and cute cutouts to keep them feeling light enough for spring and summer.

6. Anthropologie Etruscan Petal Earrings // I really like the color combo on these earrings. It's a nice mix that could pair well with primary or pastel colors. Oh, and that bit of red would go nicely with my new dream swimsuit...

7. Madewell Transport Tote // I love a basic brown leather tote for spring. This one would be very VERY cute with a little gold monogram on the top too... I'm imagining shopping at the Union Square farmer's market and filling it with #8...

8. Ranunculus Flowers // Can I please take a moment to admit that I am weirdly excited about ranunculus flowers, despite the fact that they ryhme so closely with 'ridonkulous' (remember when that was a word kids?). They are such a beautiful, delicate flower for spring, and look great in little bud vases all over my apartment. They're also shockingly expensive. But it turns out they are a relatively easy bulb to plant, and the savings are huge (compare $20 for a small bouquet with $4.95 for 20 bulbs on Amazon). Just plant the bulbs in direct sunlight and Voilà! The more flowers you snip for your bouquets, the more blooms your ranunculus plants will produce.  I'm planning to pick up some bulbs very soon to plant my April flower garden! Click here to learn more tips for planting them.

Trench Coat + Lilly

Early spring means a few fun fashion things to me. One, it's a great time to start mixing bright, springy florals in with your winter staples. I like to go with long sleeved floral blouses with ankle boots - it's not quite as intense as the knee-high boots that I wear all winter.

I also like to go with a brighter pink lip.
For me, winter = plum lipstick, spring = hot pink, and summer = bright coral

And three: CLASSIC TRENCH COAT. Such a staple for in-between type weather. I have worn the HECK out of this Jack coat since I bought it three years ago at Francesca's Collections in North Carolina, but I just can't seem to bring myself to replace it. I dearly dearly love this coat. The mildly cinched waist and high stiff collar (especially that collar) give it a bit more high fashion flair than most.

Peonies & St. Patty's

Happy St. Patrick's Day! It may not be warm and springy yet, but going on the hunt for fresh flowers to fill my apartment certainly makes it feel closer to spring. And speaking of fresh, kelly green is such a lovely accent color this season, especially paired with gold and rose gold jewelry...

BB Dakota Harmony Dress + AE Denim Jacket + Aerin Laser Cut Heels (SIMILAR: SAVE or SPLURGE) +

I love this asymmetrical wrap dress from BB Dakota. Unfortunately it's no longer available online, so I've put together some other great green dresses with similar features that are available this season:
